Christian is a PhD Student at the University of Innsbruck and Visiting Researcher at Lancaster University Management School (LUMS). He has experience in quantitative research and financial planning and analysis in an international corporation. In his research Christian studies innovation-driven M&A transactions with a focus on knowledge transfer, sources of ambiguity, acquisition integration, and family firms. In 2018 he was awarded with the Best Paper Award in the M&A track of the European Academy of Management Conference for his systematic literature review on M&A and innovation.

Key thoughts: While around the turn of the millennium innovation-driven M&A were reported to represent only one percent of the total M&A market in the US, the investments in this type of acquisition have quadrupled from 2012 to 2016. Still, we know little about what makes acquisitions successful and the underlying logics of innovation-driven M&A differ from traditional, scale-driven acquisitions. With this research I intend to contribute to a holistic understanding of the phenomenon including integration approaches, expected synergies, and knowledge transfer.
